Pictures of the 2012 Beth Walton Memorial Run are now available!!

Pictures of the 2012 Beth Walton Memorial Run are now available! This was the third year of the run, and it couldn't have been as successful as it was without all of the hard work and dedication of every volunteer. The memory and spirit of Beth Walton was in full force this past Sunday.

The Philosophical Photographer Turns Two Today!

The Philosophical Photographer turned two years old today, and I cannot thank everyone who has helped support me enough over the past two years. A lot has changed for me over these past couple of years both personally and professionally. I am now a proud father of my amazing beautiful baby boy, and my wife and I have grown so much together through it all. I could not have kept this site going without her loving support!

I have added a couple of new features to the site that are launching today. I have added a new site survey page and FAQ page as well. My hope is for everyone to fill out the survey so it will help me craft new and improved content. The FAQ I will continue to grow, and your suggestions for content will help me with this process. I have a couple of new ideas that I may deploy in the upcoming weeks or months so stay tuned for updates.

Donate to my CrowdRise fundraising project for the Beth Walton Memorial Run.

I have wanted to start a fundraising project on Crowdrise for a long time now and I finally have! The link is listed here, and all proceeds generated will go the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF). It is super easy to donate, and every dollar earned will help drive the research that will eventually find a cure for cancer. In addition to directly donating to my foundation please sign up and register for the Third Annual Beth Walton Memorial Run which will be held this upcoming June 10, 2012 at Wheaton Regional Park located in Montgomery County Maryland. For more information go to the direct site which you can access here. For my Crowdrise foundation I will donate every dollar I make through the purchases of my photos available on The Philosophical Photographer. So if you want to donate to a great cause, and get a really cool picture out of the deal then this is the option for you! I know that everyone has it in them to help make a difference in the battle against cancer.

I've learned that ordinary people change the world, and I have also learned that ordinary people unfairly get cancer. No one asks for extraordinary circumstances to happen to them but it does every single day. Ordinary individuals become true heroes, because they find the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. We ask our heroes to fight for their lives everyday, but we really need to ask ourselves what can we do for them? There is a cure and I truly believe this with all my heart.

Help fund the cure today.

Brad Meltzer Heroes for My Daughter book signing event!

Brad Meltzer is in town tonight promoting his new book: Heroes for My Daughter. Tonight: April 12, 2012 at 7:00 pm he will be at the Barnes & Noble book store located in Bethesda Maryland. He will be giving a short talk and reading several passages from his book. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Brad he also has a television show on the History channel called DeCoded. I went to one of his book signing events last year and documented my time with him that evening. You can read about it here. Heroes for My Daughter is a follow up to his previous book Heroes for My Son which was released a couple of years ago. I purchased this book when my son was born earlier this year, and I must say that I greatly enjoyed the stories and message the book presents. I don’t have any daughters yet, but I am going to pick up a copy of this book tonight just in case I have a daughter one day! I hope to see all of you out there tonight!

The Game of Thrones Season 2 Premier April 1, 2012 on HBO!

For those of you who may not have heard, the new season of Game of Thrones will premier April 1, 2012. This series by HBO is fantastic and the books are even better. Do yourself a favor and watch the first season, and then read the books. It has been a long time since I have been very excited for a new series on TV, but after reading all of the books I am going to predict that this may be the biggest series on TV ever when they are done. George R.R. Martin is the 21st century Tolkien of our era, and once his masterpiece is finished his name will forever be remembered.
