Philosophical Thought of the Day

"Pero si muove." ("Still it moves")

- Galileo Galilei

"These were Galileo's famous words at his own inquisition. Despite the threat of death he muttered these words in reference to his beliefs that the earth is not the central point in the universe."

(Excerpt taken from Simon Critchley's The Book of Dead Philosophers. Pg. 115)

If faced with the same situation of Galileo would you be willing to die for what you believed in? Knowing willingly that torture and death were knocking at your door. It was with great courage that Galileo realized that this truth of the universe was far more important then his own mortal life. What if we all lived to better the world instead of ourselves? Could such a world exist? Or does this world need a sea of selfishness and a few shinning spots of courage to exist?
