Philosophical Thought of the Day

Pretend for a moment that we had God like powers, and in this moment we could know the answer to only one question. What would it be?

I would want to know: Does the human race have the capacity to exist forever?

The answer to this question would be profoundly important because knowing this would change the very purpose of life for humans. One thing I can say that we do extremely well as humans is live our lives as if we are going to live forever. This outlook on life shows that we have the confidence to make it, but it also means that we are very arrogant and possibly self destructive. Earth and humans have only existed a fraction of a second compared to the other species and the universe. Humans have debatably been around for about 50,000 years, while our civilized societies began popping up on Earth roughly 5,000 years ago. The Dinosaurs existed on earth for hundreds of millions of years, and the universe has been around for about 14 billion years. We are new comers to the cosmic game of life and death, and knowing whether or not we as a species have what it takes to possibly make it would be a key piece of information. I know that I am deathly afraid our own self destructionas a species compared to the universe deciding our time is up.
