The Funeral
The Funeral
Two children knelt at a coffin,
Long I gazed and my sorrow grew
Together suffering in their grief, I cried for two.
Two children knelt at a coffin,
And I being just one man wondered what I could do.
Long their father suffered,
And I stood witnessing his eternal rest,
As I watched two sons lay their nails on his breast.
Long their father suffered,
A man deeply loved and truly blessed.
Two men knelt at a coffin and I was confused,
Because in a fleeting moment of time,
I saw two children kneeling with their father one last time.
Two men knelt at a coffin and I was confused,
And I being heavy of heart cried for two one last time.
Ages hence have passed me by,
And I standing alone bared witness to the scene,
Two children knelt at a coffin, while time did not intervene.
Ages hence have passed me by,
And the requiem from that day still haunts me in my dreams.
