Better Halves

Better Halves

It's amazing how the taste of life changed the day you became my wife,

'Cause the loneliness had cut like a knife.

You're my better half; you fixed my reflection in the tide

You gave me pause and taught this heart how to reflect on my better side.

I don't want to lose you now, so please don't let me go,

I just want you to know, that you're the reflection of my soul.

The world had told me that I was wrong, but you showed me that I was right

Your hands sowed the seeds of love the day you came into my life.

I had feared the future, but dreamed of this day,

We lay awake at nights waiting for your kicks to tell us it would be ok.

I put my ear to your heart and I knew from the start

That one day you would grab my hand through the rain and hold it close your heart.

I knew it would be hard, but never in this way

To be blessed by your innocence, and know it will be gone one day.

Watching you grow old is every parent's bane,

But thinking of the man you will become takes away the pain.

My life's been redefined by the little moments that I won't let slip away

They'll live forever in my memories, but I'll cherish them today.

My family is my rock: my present, my future, and my past,

I've anchored my heart as I reflect on my better halves.

I don't want to lose you now, so please don't let me go,

I just want you to know, that you're the reflection of my soul.

The world had told me not now, but together you showed me that I was right

Your heart's sowed the seeds of love the day my family came into my life.
