Being both a father and a son I could not have imagined growing up without my dad, or my son growing up without me in his life. I was very fortunate to have a loving and kind father. I can only try my best to be as good a father to my son as my dad was to me. It is important through powerful images such as this one, for us to reflect on the sacrifices our military personnel go through to protect our way of life.

This little boy will never speak with his father again, feel his hugs and kisses, or hear him say I love you again. It is the little things in life that count the most. I would gladly lose everything for the ability to tell my son I love him every day, hug him, and kiss him. I sometimes feel that this country is lacking perspective, and losing touch with reality. This "American Dream" life we live is only possible through the dedication and sacrifices of our armed forces. And all it takes sometimes is one simple image of a grieving boy to gain that perspective that we all desperately need from time to time. Our parents, children, brothers, sisters, spouses, grandparents, aunts/uncles, close friends, etc... These relations and bonds that we have formed are the truest forms of measuring the only wealth that truly matters...our happiness. Happiness is best spent with others, and we should never forget this simple lesson. My heart and prayers go out to this young boy and his family. I pray that he can take comfort in knowing that a father's love never truly leaves us.
