A New Era of Common Sense

A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.
— Thomas Pain, Common Sense

Sometimes the world seems like a mindless cruel place to live. It amazes me when I hear, see, and witness the rampant violence, hate, and bigotry that takes place. Despite the end results the core of these negative actions are driven by a prevalent ignorance. As a people we are all so far from being perfect beings, but what this country needs now more than ever is a resurgence of love, patience, and virtues. It is of little secret or doubt to me that a national initiative against ignorance is what this country needs. We desperately need a leader who will drive the country in this new direction. We need to invest in the minds of our youth instead of the destruction of our future enemies. The greatest threat is not from outside forces, but from the destruction of our national solidarity. If we lose our ability to think critically, and act rationally we then deserve as a people to be governed by the results of our own ignorance. Americans are great at waging war against those who threaten us with physical harm, but are we ready to wage a new war in a new era? Grab the pen and throw down the sword. Let us nurture ourselves and those around us. Stand united and refuse to be divided; let us be the captains of our ships, and lead wayward souls with our actions.
