Philosophical Thought of the Day

The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.

- Maya Angelou

There is something special about the power of a home, and losing a home is one of the hardest events we may ever suffer. Our homes define us and help make us who we are. They are the greatest forms and outlets of our own self expression. There are no two homes that are alike. Each is unique just like any one of us, and that is why the loss of a home can be devastating. Homes come in all shapes and sizes, and they can take on any form. There really isn’t a definitive definition of what a home has to look like. All that matters is that it is a place we can simply call ours. Having your home is one of the most liberating and self rewarding experiences we can achieve. A home can tell a story that only you know. Every scratch on the wall, stain on the carpet, or flower planted outside has a story associated with it. Much like how a scar on our body reminds us of a certain moment in our life. A home accumulates these small ‘scars’ as reminders, our own little moments that remind us of where we have come and where we are going. The one thing I have come to realize in my life is that while a home contains our family, it’s the family around us that makes our homes feel so special.
